Stanford vs. San Jose State I

Football is finally here! After an offseason full of Ponzi schemers, tattoo parlors, and “borrowed” cars, there are real games on the horizon. Update: I just discovered that Stanford has its own blog on ESPN.com! If you go to the the college football page, there is a list of the blogs for each conference. At the bottom of the list a specific blog for Stanford! Check it out

Quick Preview

Stanford begins its season at home against San Jose State. The Cardinal aren’t expected to have much trouble with a Spartan squad who only defeated Southern Utah last season. None the less, the Cardinal can’t allow there to be any letdown. With Andrew Luck, the almost certainly won’t be. This game looks like a blowout.

Off the Farm

The rest of the weekend is filled with interesting games. The epic battle between Oregon and LSU takes place Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium. The guess here is that the suspension of several LSU players tip the balance in Oregon’s favor.

Georgia battles Boise State in Atlanta. Much of the talk has centered on Heisman trophy candidate Kellen Moore, but his counterpart, Aaron Murray, deserves some attention. The pick is that the talented Mr. Murray leads the Bulldogs to a statement win over the Broncos.

There’s one last game I want to touch on, and that is Notre Dame vs. South Florida. Notre Dame comes into the season with inordinate amount of hype. Many are predicting a BCS birth for the Irish. I don’t see it. Consider this the upset pick of the week: South Florida defeats Notre Dame in South Bend.

Recruiting Update

Stanford received a verbal commitment from Luke Kaumatule. Kaumatule is a defensive end from Hawaii. He is rated a four star prospect on Scout, a four star prospect on Rivals, and a three star prospect on ESPN. The Stanford football recruiting class is now up to twelve commitments.
